Though this record came out a few days ago, the epicness of the music is so emotionally heavy that we couldn’t find the right words to write about it properly. We couldn’t just be like “Kruelty release new album” and be done with it. From the opening samples to how the record unleashes with their trademark death metal meets doom metal meets beatdown meets hardcore sound, the band sets the tone right from the get-go. That downturned fury is all over this collection of music – even on their more doom-heavy parts it’s hard not to feel the ferociousness in the sound/vibe/feeling/imagery they’re trying to project on this world. The riffs are tighter, the songcraft full of awesome transitions is better, and of course, the flawless production keeps it all powerfully together in one insane audio package.
Metal Injection‘s review of the record captures it pretty well:
“Kruelty has an uncommon ability to write parts that cross genres without trying too hard. It’s easy to imagine hardcore kids two-stepping during the bouncy intro of “Reincarnation,” or death metallers circle-pitting to the galloping thrash section, but the real bridge-building occurs with mid-tempo beefiness and bottom-end abuse. Genre distinctions become irrelevant, as Kruelty clearly doesn’t care about pronouncing “the spooky doom metal section” or “the part to make you punch your friend in the face.” They just let the protracted tone worship or battle-ready mosh parts speak for themselves. The bone-rattling sensations could swing in either direction, whether it be ninja moshing or head-banging.”
The band will be hitting the road hard this year so make sure to keep a lookout for when this band comes rolling through. They’re starting with a European tour this April (flyer below).
