Showcase festivals are both a helping hand and the backstage of the music business, the place where musicians and other creatives can network, and meet other musicians and creatives for potential collaborations, partnerships, and knowledge sharing. It can also let those who are unsure about touring a market, dip in to get a feel for that region’s musical landscape.
Showcase festivals can be found in Bangkok, Seoul, Taipei, and across the US in music cities, scattered through Europe and Latin America, and cropping up in various African countries. Yet, in all this, the 2nd largest music market in the world, the largest city in the world – Tokyo…no showcase music festival exists. No event for musicians both local and international to meet up, share a stage, and plan for musical takeovers…until now.
The Tokyo Beyond Music Festival is a unique 2-day showcase festival that brings together on the same stages, independent and small-label artists from both Japan and overseas. The showcase festival is unique in that it is grassroots and organically run. There is no federal government sponsor underwriting the event. There are no major label executives dictating programming or direction. It is based on the collaborative efforts of independent artist managers, live music venues, small to mid-size labels, community event coordinators, as well as other interested supporters.
Event date: November 26 & 27, 2022
Venue location: Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan
Sites: Festival will run across 4 venues with an anticipated 80 bands in total
