After being in lockdown for months that stifled the country’s economy and everything related to arts, Malaysian post-hardcore band, An Honest Mistake, has released their music video for their brand new single, ‘All Over Again’. Shot by Andrew Tan of the band TRNSTNS & BRGHTBRN.
The band says, “We just wanted to do something simple. A band performance-style music video was all that we needed. We’ve always believed in minimizing the work but maximizing the result and Andrew did just that. We got it done within 5 hours and it turned out perfect. We didn’t have to go back and forth with Andrew that much because he’s in a band too and he knew what we wanted and what was needed to achieve that.” The band continues, “The lockdown really messed a lot of things up. We wanted to put the video out at the same time as the release of the single and even that got pushed back too. But the point is, it’s finally out and we’re just glad that friends who have seen and shared the video, love it. It’s a good representation of the band as well because it’s just the 4 of us now so it makes sense to really highlight that.”
There is also additional content made as a support for the release; a ‘behind the track’ video where the lead singer discusses the ideas and thoughts behind each part of the track, a studio diary of the recording process of the single, and the making of the music video.
‘All Over Again’ is An Honest Mistake’s brand new single further solidifying a brand new sound, away from the previous happy pop-punk energy they’re known for. This new sound started with #IDGAD in 2020 fusing electronic elements and trap beats. The band has gone a little darker moving away from bubblegum pop lyrical content as well; tackling issues that are closer to home especially in this tough period the world is going through.
While many are struggling with issues of mental health during the lockdown, ‘All Over Again’ was inspired by Tomas, the lead guitarist’s experience of extreme loneliness. The idea was built around thoughts of loneliness, regret, and learning how to deal with it in the context of a relationship.”
