Korean photographer Young Jun has released an amazing photobook entitled Unexpected Moments documenting the Korean hardcore-punk scene. It’s a 200 page book that Jun started 3 years ago. The book began as an idea of capturing the interaction between a band and their audience and he thought the best way to do this was through photography – FILM photography mind you. Yes, every photo in this book was all shot on film. Jun says “By just pressing a button I can hold on to that exact moment that someone in the audience was feeling something, even if it was a fleeting moment of happiness or sadness…I can see it all over their faces in the photo…both on the faces of the audience and the musicians on stage”. The whole idea he said helped him concentrate and focus on the moment. This is a beautiful thing because as we are all glued to our phones, even at a show while the band is up on stage fighting for YOUR attention, Jun was able to find away to ignore the traps of technology all due to a camera in his hand.
His hope with this book is to give people who are unfamiliar with this small underground hardcore punk community a chance to get to know the music, the voices, the vibe and touch people’s heart through the photographs.
