When we  FIRST saw this live video of powerhouse vocalist Makiko Suda of Japanese grindcore band Flagitious Idiosyncrasy in the Dilapidation and Monnier obliterating Obscene Extreme Fest, we literally had to pick up our jaw off the floor.

The way she goes from those guttural lows to those screeching highs all on a dime while simultaneously running around instigating the crowd into circle pits and stage dives? INCREDIBLE…what makes this performance even more incredible is the power of the rest of the band: Tomoko providing the blast beast fury on the drums, Kanako holding the fort down on the bass, and Noriko with her riffs for days on the guitar. What a fucking GREAT band…and more proof that this isn’t and has never been just boys fun.

Makiko moved to the US recently and upon hearing the dismay in our voice (we assumed that was the end of F.I.D.) she quickly jumped in “Yeah I moved but the band is still going to keep going! We’re even currently working on new material. Thank you internet! hahahaha…” While the gears are turning on new music, she has kept herself busy churning out thought-provoking illustration after illustration which you can check out on her IG: https://www.instagram.com/makiko.fid/

She was kind enough to send her top 5 so go check it out below!

All the Women in the Extreme Music Scene

I know this sounds corny, but it’s true. All the women in the extreme music scene have been an inspiration to me. ALL OF THEM. I would list everyone here if I could, but hey, that isn’t realistic. All of them are here just because they love the music and have a passion for it, and they’re not doing this for fashion or money. There certainly any dudes here who look like BTS or girls who look like Black Pink! There is no factor in this that will make you popular on social networks. There is ONLY filthy loud music! I love their passion for this!! It inspires me. I hope they will keep inspiring me and the number of women in the scene keeps expanding so that I can share my passion with more.

The Gaia

The GAIA was the band that taught me that girls can play brutal aggressive music. Their vocalist Gana was a huge inspiration to me. She sounded great!

Rumiko Takahashi

Rumiko is a Japanese Manga artist. She has created famous series such as Urusei Yatsura, Ranma, Inuyasha and so on. Needless to say, her works are stunning. She has been creating manga since 1978 and has almost never stopped. What creativity and grit. Total respect.

The Scarlet Tongue Project Members

The Scarlet Tongue Project is an art performance group. They started as a documentary film about female artists exploring the social taboos of anger through art, culture, and intersectional feminism. I am so proud to say I am a member (I do live drawing) Check out more on https://www.facebook.com/thescarlettongueproject/

The other members are very talented performance artists. I’ve gotta say, they are very beautiful and sexy ladies, but they are so strong and fearless in showing their anger through their art pieces. They look like fierce monsters when they are performing. The extreme music taught me how to show anger, but these ladies taught me not only that ugly sounding music but also beautiful art pieces can express anger.

I know the editor told me to list five women who inspired me, but I feel like I’ve cheated on this list! So, why not more? All the cool women out there, it is you!
