Thai Vegan Metal Band 1Q94 Release Tribute Track To Herbie Hancock

Bangkok Vegan and Green Metal band 1Q94 pays homage to, once plant-powered, jazz legend Herbie Hancock at the occasion of his 80th Birthday. 1Q94 wanted to seize the opportunity to celebrate the 80th birthday of living jazz legend Herbie Hancock (who followed a plant-based diet to boost his creativity in the 1970s and, recently, to keep healthy) with a hard-rock/metal cover of his famous composition “Watermelon Man”.

To illustrate the song, the band shot a video a few days before the beginning of the voluntary self-confinement in Thailand.

They introduced their new mascot: พี่แตงโม (P’[which means in Thai: “older brother or sister”] Tangmo [Thai for “watermelon”]) who brought Bangkokians, who were already hit by the pandemic, a lot of smiles and joy during the shooting.

Herbie Hancock will turn 80 tomorrow and he is still well and kicking with a coming world tour that should start in May[iii] if, of course, the sanitary world situation allows it.
