Singapore’s Geylang Ska Jazz Orchestra release live videos

What’s obvious as soon as you hit play on the videos streaming below by Singapore’s Geylang Ska Jazz Orchestra is that this is a band made up of musicians who are in love with the way that music moves them. The music oozes out of their every note, hit and lyric sung…if you’re ever out in Singapore make sure to check out one of their shows!

Here’s great background on the band:

“Geylang known internationally for being a pretty colourful sector of Singapore, that was where the band rehearsed above a beancurd shop at the studio of Kribo Records owned by Akim Maggot. Initially the band Geylang Afro Rock Band (GARB) was an experimental funk, disco, rock fusion band but we were invited to do a ska set so the bass player for GARB/The Full Pledge Munkees took the opportunity to discuss with all the horn sections of existing Singapore based ska bands to form this band together and see where it goes. “After all it has been our long time dream to do this together our brass section.”

The band consists of: trombone Khai (Comic Strip, SingaRagga), Lal (The Full Pledge Munkees, Comicstrip, Cesspit & bass player of Iman’s League), Shamin (The Full Pledge Munkees, who is also the band’s reliable horn director transcribing all the lines breaking down the notes for the entire brass section), Trumpets: Kareem (Cesspit), Raimi (The Full Pledge Munkees) Saxophone: Alto: Sha (Cesspit, Comic Strip), Tenor: Hafiz Jazz (The Full Pledge Munkees), Haqim Maggot guitar (Lion City Ska Jazz Ensemble), Arif on keys (Lion City Ska Jazz Ensemble), Matt on drums (Bushmen, Lioncity Ska Ensemble), Budiman Rani perc (Bloco, Rhythm de Passion, Lion City Ska Jazz Ensemble).

The band also wants to give a special shout out & thank you to Huda for singing My Boy Lollipop. Rothsman Hunter of the Adelphi Crew for singing Monkey Man with us.
