Singapore celebrates 50 years of rock n’ roll

This is just amazing…a group of wonderful Singaporeans have come together to document and organize an exhibition chronicling Singapore’s over 50 years of rock n’ roll history called So Happy: 50 Years of Singapore Rock. I’m not going to say anything more because the organizer has summarized it so well in his press release:

“Join us as we culminate months of research, curation and documentation of Singapore’s rock music community spanning six decades from 1960s to the present day.

So Happy: 50 Years of Singapore Rock will celebrate 100 bands and artistes that were critical to our rock music scene, through 100 photos from 40 over photographers. Many of these photos have been kept under wraps for the exhibition, which includes a number of rarely-seen and exclusive photos.

At the gallery will also be a collection of artefacts—including flyers, vinyl records, cassettes, and ticket stubs—along with a music mix and video interviews with 10 personalities who have made a difference in our rock history.

To top it off, there will be 2 nights of gigs that will feature The Oddfellows,Riot !n Magenta, THE PINHOLES on 8 April, and Plainsunset, Rudra andLC93 on 9 Apr in The Substation Theatre. The gigs are free!

This project by creative agency, fFurious, is supported by the Singapore Memory Project’s irememberSG Fund, The Substation, Antalis SEA andThunder Rock School, as part of the Singapore50 (SG50) Celebrations.”
