Singaporean rock band ‘Koji’ drops their track, ‘ELECTRIC SHEEP’, their second single release of 2018 for their upcoming EP, “We All Die by Machines”, which they aim to release by late 2018 / early 2019.
‘ELECTRIC SHEEP’ describes the precursor thoughts of an Artificial Intelligence being, leading to its self-awareness and the eventual rise of Machines. The song is loosely based on the book, “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” by Philip K. Dick and Isaac Asimov’s “Three Laws of Robotics” and the introduction of the Zeroth law, which ultimately leads to the machines taking over the world. The inspiration came from the band’s collective love of science fiction in movies, such as ‘Blade Runner’, ‘Back to the Future’ and ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’.
The band wanted to write a song that properly captures their love for catchy riffs, similar to their previous tracks ‘PRICK’ and ‘THE GROOVE’. This track was also heavily inspired by their close brothers in music, Knightingale, whose use of more ‘chord-based’ riffs inspired them to do the same during the writing of the song. This is not the first time the band has written a track referencing to pop culture and films, with the first being their song ‘MRS.MIA WALLACE’, which is a reference to one of the main characters in the movie ‘Pulp Fiction’.
Similarly to their previous release ‘GREEN’, the band wanted the same raw garage-esque vibe which led them once again to record with Leonard Soosay at Snakeweed Studios. The use of live drums and amped up guitars were the main reason why they went back to the studio, with the three cats being the secondary reason. They are working on the rest of the songs for their upcoming EP and will be continuing to record with Snakeweed for the foreseeable future.
‘ELECTRIC SHEEP’ is the second song off Koji’s upcoming EP, “We All Die by Machines”, which they aim to release by late 2018 / early 2019. The band took a long break in 2017 to focus on other endeavours while continuing to write new material in the studio. In 2018, the band is actively playing again to promote their new releases leading up to their eventual EP launch.
