Rumah Cemara was founded by five (former) drug users in 2003. This community organization aims to improve the quality of life of people with HIV-AIDS, drug users, and other marginal groups in Indonesia through peer support approaches.

Rumah Cemara envisioned Indonesia without stigma and discrimination where all human beings have equal opportunity to go forward, get quality HIV and drug services, and protected according to the constitution. To be able to make it happen, Rumah Cemara will participate in the national AIDS prevention and control efforts along with its policy formulation that is in favor of the fulfillment of human rights and equality.”
