Pakistani artist Arooj Aftab release beautifully crafted album

Arooj Aftab

Of course I’m a little biased when I hear Pakistani artists being Pakistani myself…I’ve never lived in Pakistan but grew up in a very traditional Pakistani household that had South Asian music or movies playing all day long either at home or in the car…the notes and scales used in traditional South Asian music without fail always brings about some of the most calm in my soul…don’t know why that is because it certainly isn’t the type of music that I always claim to have “saved my life” – hardcore, metal and punk rock. But there is something very comforting about this music…its spiritual vibe maybe? Its “mystic” tendency? The fact that it doesn’t come barreling at you like a fist clenched in a form of anger and frustration? The brooding nature of this type of music…sung in Urdu or Hindhi or whatever else dialect lends itself magically to a form of the deepest poetry sung…

I could go on and on…
