New Wave Duo Guji Release Music Video For Debut Track ‘Build A Friend For Me’ [China]

Shanghai-based new wave duo Guji unveiled their first video/single “Build A Friend For Me”. The group is comprised of Guizhou-born Jiang Zi Xiu and American Chachy (guitar player of punk band Round Eye) and is inspired by DEVO, The b-52’s, Whiskey, Lockdown, Barbie, 大白兔.

“The song is about someone wanting to build up a perfect bf/sex partner for herself/himself.”

The music and video were created entirely at their home during Shanghai’s extensive Covid lockdown. “We wrote and recorded this song during the first lockdown of Shanghai in 2020. Now we are having the 2nd ultra lockdown going on (Almost two months indoors already). So we decide to make the video instead of turning into couch potatoes.”
