NEW LABEL PROFILE: Meet Vietnamese Pop Punk Label Tup Tac Records

This is such an exciting morning cause we get to help share some awesome news from one of the scenes out here in Asia that has always been bustling with activity – even through this covid crap.

Over the years we’ve been watching Vietnam’s burgeoning rock scenes take off in so many directions – metal and hardcore especially. But the one scene that seems most invested in helping each other out and building each other up is Vietnam’s pop-punk scene. After we’ve written about several bands these past few years who have been bursting out of Vietnam it seems only inevitable that the one thing that would help “house” all these bands together is a record label.

That day has come.

Meet newly launched record label Tup Tac Records!

The amazing label was kind enough to also send us more information:

“We’re just an indie label for punk bands in Vietnam. We’re a bunch of punk musicians who are part of this new wave of people super into punk rock here. Over time we met a whole bunch of major labels but none of them could give us what we wanted. They seemed more interested in taking everything from us in exchange for corny ass shit we don’t need like press conferences and promises of big numbers online. So we decided to use everything we’ve learned and the knowledge we’ve gained from self-managing our own bands and harness all the connections we’ve made to create our own system. [Editor’s Note: FUCK YEAH!!!].

Our purpose as a label is simple: we want to be the change we want to see in Vietnam’s music business. We’re tired of people complaining all day. A lot of people get eaten up by this negative energy and end up giving up. But what we want to see is our punk rock community grow to the level of the scene in Thailand and Japan.”

The label may be a new endeavor but already host pretty much the who’s who of the Vietnamese pop-punk world. They currently have 4 bands on their roster but will be announcing them soon – so we want to be respectful and not give the names out here.

It would also be a HUGE mistake on our part if we didn’t mention other labels that helped pave the way for Tup Tac Records to exist especially First and Last Records (read about them HERE) who also helped release tons of great music from Vietnam.
