INTERVIEW: Q organizer of Thai hardcore show paying homage to NYHC bands

Thai Hardcore Show

On September 5th Bangkok’s hardcore scene will be taking over the town with a hot showing paying homage to NYHC bands. As soon as I saw the flyer above with the who’s who of the Thai hardcore scene all coming together for this ONE show, I just had to find out more.

Today I sent some questions to the promoter of this show, Q, to find out more. Q is the person on the very left in the photo below and sings for a band called Rising War Old Times.

Q

What’s up man! This is Riz from King Ly Chee/UniteAsia.org!
Hi my bro! Nice to meet you!

So I heard you are the one who organized that show in September?
Yes that’s me!

Cool man! Are you free now to do a quick interview?
Yes sure!

Please tell us what the idea is for this show?
One day we watched a documentary about NYHC on YouTube and it gave us huge inspiration. I just love NYHC music so much, and your band too!

Hahaha…thanks! So the main reason you organized this show was for the Thai hardcore scene to thank NYHC bands?
Yes most people in the Thai hardcore scene are influenced by the NYHC sound and bands.

When you asked all the Thai bands to cover NYHC bands – what was their reaction?
Everybody was excited to play the songs that they had been listening to for a long time. And the reaction from people outside of these bands has been great too! A lot of people want to be a part of this show.

Thai hardcore band Never Fear Tomorrow will be covering Madball

Since your show is to celebrate NYHC, how come some of the bands are covering Minor Threat or Suicidal Tendencies?
Actually, initially we only wanted bands to cover NYHC bands but those two bands really wanted to join the show so we said sure…it’d be cool to have them and we’re all good friends anyway.

Great man! What do you hope will happen after this show for Thailand hardcore?
We hope that this show will be one of the greatest shows of the year and we’re SURE it’s going to be a crazy night.

Thai hardcore band Born From Pain will be covering Earth Crisis, Indecision and Hatebreed

The timing is perfect too because one of NYHC greatest bands Sick of it All is coming to Bangkok too (Sept 29 at The Rock Pub)! How does the Thai hardcore scene feel about that show???
We are super surprised and so glad that a great old school NYHC band will come back to Thailand and I know that every single Thai hardcore kid is saying the same thing.

Awesome! We’re playing that show too – so see all of you guys there!
See you then!

Thai hardcore band Monument X will be covering Youth of Today
