Hardcore Band Agathusia Release Debut Single Dedicated to Indigenous People [Philippines]

“The song is short for Indigenous People or locally called as the “Lumad”. For nearly half a century, wars, famine, and political mismanagement have crippled them into nomads and foreigners of their own ancestral domain. Extrajudicial killings, discrimination and forced evacuation, and closure of their hinterland closures are common occurrences here in the southern Philippines. It is an issue that no group of people should be facing in this modern era,” states Filipino hardcore band Agathusia.

Agathusia may have formed 10 years ago but this is only their first ever released material. Ten years is a LONG time to be a band with no recorded output. The band explains, “For the past 10 years, we have been writing songs and performing all over Mindanao but didn’t really have the time to sit down and record them for a release. Only in 2019, when we finally had a fixed drummer we finally formalized most of our songs. Also, only recently did some of us complete our studies. We have lots on our hands and we actually planned to release our songs altogether in an album but decided otherwise. Our lead guitarist also just returned from working outside our locality while our Vox just also finished his 2nd course in college.”

The band states that they’re highly influenced by more politically-conscious hardcore bands and thus why the song is about what it’s about.
