DESCRIPTION:One step closer for winning the trip to Canada! The Underground is delighted to announce the five finalist bands who have been shortlisted from the semi-final votes. The finalist bands are: \n• Carrier 帶菌者\n• NastyDudes\n• Something Blue\n• Turing Apples\n• Wanchai Road \nThis year we have five Hong Kong bands in the final and only one of these bands will get the chance to represent China to perform at the Envol et Macadam alternative music festival in Quebec\, Canada this September without paying a single penny for their flight tickets and accommodation! The winning band will perform at the festival and be included in the festival promotions. They will also have free entry to attend all stages and mingle with music professionals and other bands. \nThis year\, the grand finale of Planetrox China 2017 will be held on 7th July 2017 (Friday) at The Doghouse in Tsim Sha Tsui. Each band will have 20 minutes to lure the judge panel and the audience through their musical talent. The final results will be\ndecided by the judges and the audience together\, (75% judges and 25% audience) . Confirmed judges are Simon Gaudry\, Envol et Macadam and two more judges to be confirmed. \nIt is the seventh year for The Underground to organise Planetrox China in collaboration with the Quebec government. The competition aims at searching the best band in town to put them under the spotlight at the Envol et Macadam Festival each September. All the winning bands in the past gained an extensive exposure to the international audience at the festival\, and also won a “once in a lifetime” experience to showcase their music talents in front of the world. Former winners include “Noughts & Exes”\, “Shotgun Politics”\, “WonderGarl 神奇膠”\, “Bamboo Star” and “Sugar Bro” from Hong Kong and “Turtle Giant” from Macau. DESCRIPTION:Volkswagen Hong Kong teams up with The Underground to give bands a chance to strut their stuff in front of a live crowd and win time in a recording studio.\nVolkswagen and The Underground Battle of the Bands is looking for the very brightest and most original musical talents in Hong Kong. \nAfter four hard-fought semi-finals\, 30 groups have been whittled down to just eight\, who are now ready to do battle once more for an amazing line-up of prizes.\nWe’re delighted to announce the following bands are in the final: \nDusty Bottle\nLPM\nEsimorp\nWanchai Road\nNarcissus（水仙）\nMüchell\nMockingbird\nCow Head \nAt the final\, each band will perform for 12 minutes – including at least one original song. The esteemed judges are Lauren James\, Reporter\, South China Morning Post\, Sammy So\, KOLOR and a third judge to be confirmed. DESCRIPTION:UK’s punk rock legends celebrate their milestone 40th anniversary this year and to celebrate with their overseas disciples\, the band will be heading to Hong Kong\, to perform on 28th of February to play a special set of their biggest and best songs.\nThe Damned have always ranked as Number Three among Britain’s original punk bands\, after the Sex Pistols and the Clash but as the sole legitimate survivor of the first punk wave they finally get the recognition their fans have always given them. \nPrime movers on the London scene in 1976\, they released UK punk’s first single\, and its first album\, before also being the first to split up\, albeit fleetingly\, in autumn 1977. On the legendary Anarchy tour of December ’76\, they fell foul of the Pistols’s manager\, Malcolm McLaren. The tour was banned outright across the country\, but the Damned wanted to play for their fans\, and were ostracized by the others for shying away from confronting the establishment. That set the tone for 4 decades to come…….. \nAlthough they shifted to a more goth-rock sound in the ’80s\, The Damned have a significant place in punk history\, being the first punk act from the United Kingdom to tour the United States\, release an album—their 1977 debut\, Damned Damned Damned—and release a single. The Damned proceeded to make a run of stone-cold classic albums and singles. There’d be plenty of low points amidst the highs\, to be sure\, but it’s hard to argue with the results \nThe Damned are soon to be back in the studio recording a new album before embarking on their 40th anniversary tour this spring. The band has had plenty of lineup changes over the past four decades\, but lead singer David Vanian and guitarist Captain Sensible remain. The singer and the guitarist will be headed stateside\, along with long term members Monty Oxymoron\, Andrew “Pinch” Pinching\, and Stu West beginning their extensive tour in 2017 with a show at the Music Zone at Kowloon KITEC on February 28th\, 2017. \nExpect the unexpected and this band will never disappoint you. DESCRIPTION:Battle for Bangkok Rock festival – 12th February 6:00 PM \nA festival dedicated to crashing guitars\, loud hammering drums and sweet melodies. The Overstay presents the Battle of the Bands. 10 Bands\, more than 7 hours of live rock music. A big mix up of all styles of Rock and Roll from psychedelic rock to Postpunk and garage punk to rockabilly and hardcore. Everything that includes guitars\, bass and drums will come to The Overstay on Sunday the 12th of February. \nThe line up includes bands like the newcomer hit sensation Penny Time (3 weeks Nr.1 at Cat radio) and Rocked Science\, the new project from Stylish Nonsense front man and Panda Records founder Pok.
