Chess Boxing Release Single To Commemorate Mental Health Awareness [Philippines]

Chess Boxing is a four-piece band based in Pasay, Philippines, that draws influence from punk, indie, emo, shoegaze, and dream pop releases of the 90s/early-2000s. The band is signed to Parañaque-based DIY label Calm Lake Records.

To commemorate Mental Health Awareness Month, the band has released a new song entitled “See You, Space Cowboy (I’m Gonna Carry This Weight)”. The song centers around a person struggling to cope with their declining mental health as they seek the help and company of their closest friend(s). The title is a homage to the anime Cowboy Bebop. Unlike their previous singles which were more emotive punk-driven, the band went with a cleaner sound with this song, taking influence from emo acts Jimmy Eat World, Mineral, Christie Front Drive, alternative rock band Smashing Pumpkins, and shoegaze/dream pop acts Turnover, Drop Nineteens, and Slowdive.
