As is the case of many independent venues around the world – Vietnam’s Rec Room to close. The venue was started by recent transplant from Japan Kore who is a very familiar figure amongst the Asian hardcore community as someone who travels all over the continent connecting with local hardcore-punk peeps to find out more about their scene. While in Tokyo he’s organized tours/tour managed for Agnostic Front and played bass in Japanese beatdown band Blindside (streaming below).

A few years ago he moved to Vietnam and after a few months of feeling out the scene there, decided to set up a billion promotional activities involved with music (he runs First and Last Records, is behind School of Mosh, plays in a few bands, etc). One of his pride and joys was starting a venue called Rec Room.

Unfortunately, which will sound familiar to many venue operators around Asia, the landlord decided that since it would help him make more money if the entire building was leased out to office spaces instead of artsy fartsy types, he has decided to not renew the lease to Kore. Thus the venue is closing down…

Rec Room will have one last hurrah on July 21 – info can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/143014529610291/
